  • CALL FOR PROPOSALS -- Western Graduate Student Research Workshop on the European Union. May 4-5, 2012.
    The EU Center of Excellence at the University of California, Berkeley; the Colorado EU Center of Excellence at the University of Colorado Boulder; and the EU Center of Excellence of Seattle at the University of Washington are pleased to announce and solicit applications for the fourth Western United States Graduate Research Workshop on the EU, to be held at the University of California, Berkeley on May 4-5, 2012. Applications will be accepted through April 2, 2012. Doctoral students with approved dissertation topics focusing on the EU in any academic field and enrolled at institutions in the US may apply to attend the workshop. Applicants should submit a 5-page research proposal and curriculum vitae, to be sent by email to eucenter@berkeley.edu.
  • Reinventing the Industrial Heartland: Supply Chain Sustainability and the New Automobile Industry Conference: Videos of presentations and reports are now available
    This conference held on October 6, 2011 at Fluno Center brought together scholarly experts, public officials from Germany and Wisconsin and representatives of the automotive sector for inquiring the future of the automobile industry in Wisconsin.   • EU Studies Summer Program in Brussels
    July 9 - August 10, 2012
    The EU Studies Summer Program in Brussels offers US students the opportunity to study the emergence of a united Europe in its dynamic heart. The Program is administered by the European Commission-sponsored EU Center of Excellence at the University of Washington (Seattle), and is hosted by the Universite' Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). This five-week program features lectures and seminars by leading experts on the EU from both sides of the Atlantic, as well as site visits to major EU institutions and organizations involved in European integration.   • Maciej Pisarski, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, DC visited UW-Madison Campus on December 1, 2011
    Maciej Pisarski gave a lecture titled "The Polish Presidency of the EU: What it means for Europe and the Transatlantic Affair."   • Transatlantic Media Fellow Laura Dixon, a British Reporter with The Times of London visited UW-Madison campus
    As part of the Transatlantic Media Nework, Laura Dixon, a British Reporter with The Times of London investigated the changing relationship between the U.S. and its Latino inhabitants. During her three-month stay in the United States, she looked at the border issues, including community relations, drug policy and immigration, and visited several cities such as Madison, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington D.C.

    The Executive Director of UW-Madison European Studies Alliance, Elizabeth Covington and UW-Madison Professor in Mechanical Engineering Rolf Reitz discussed the future of the Midwest Auto Industry on For the Record with Neil Heinen on Local WISC-TV.   • K-12 Outreach News: EU Lesson Plans Available!
    The European Delegation to the United States has designed a modular series of 10 European Union lesson plans meant to support History and Social Studies curricula for grades 9-12 (but also adaptable to Middle School).
